Alex is the founding CEO of Stone & Chalk, Asia’s leading Fintech Innovation Hub located in Sydney and Melbourne. S&C supports more than 450 full time residents in over 100 high growth ventures to successfully commercialise and scale regionally and globally. Together with 26 large Australian and international corporate partners, Stone and Chalk has helped it’s startups secure over $235m in direct investment and create over 500 direct jobs in the areas of fintech, cyber security, insurance, connected devices, and data science since opening in August 2015.
Since returning to Australia, Alex has also co-founded Spark Festival, which since its inception in 2016 has grown to become Australia’s largest innovation festival, attracting over 9,000 participants in 2017. He is also a member of the Australian Securities & Investment Commissions Digital Advisory Committee and is a member of the New South Wales Governments Advisory Board for its Digital Analytics Centre.
Prior to Stone & Chalk, Alex was the Head of Strategy & Business Development for Barclays in London, and later co-founded and was Head of the Barclays Accelerator program powered by Techstars in London and New York. He also launched two start-up hubs in London and Manchester, and led a major Open Innovation program which saw hundreds of start-ups pitch to win commercial projects with large organisations.
As part of his global career, Alex has spent over 7 years living and working extensively in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Prior to his time at Barclays Bank in London, Alex had worked for Nokia Networks in Dubai and Australia, where he also worked for Lend Lease in Project Management and as an Officer in the Australian Army.
